THE RUPT GUN
This De Bange 155mm long cannon mle. 1877 was used in 1915 during the Battle of Les Eparges.
Originally it was part of a battery of four identical guns set up near the Calonne trench in the vicinity of Mouilly, not far from the memorial to author Alain Fournier.
Weighing 6.5 tonnes, this type of heavy artillery was first manufactured in Bourges in 1877. It could fire 40 kg shells over a distance of 11 or 12 kilometres.
This version was fitted with articulated cingoli wheel belts and a hydraulic brake.
It was completely buried in 1915, during the First World War, and was rediscovered, intact, in the 1980s. It is a Historic Monument.
